Big Decisions

Last year
Daisy and Hugh suggested that I join them in attending the Bicycle Task Force meetings
held at noon at the City Hall Annex in downtown Chattanooga on the third Wednesday of each
month. The Task Force was the impetus behind the Bicycle Master Plan and is very involved
in its progress.
A very
enthusiastic professional group has been hired to create the master plan. A series of
meetings has been set up to provide guidance and advise them as to our knowledge of
current and desired conditions. The Chattanooga Metropolitan area has been divided into
four sections, each having its own series of meetings. We have already had one set of
public meetings and one set of Bicycle Advisory Meetings, with a second one scheduled in
early December. There is no guarantee that everything on the plan will get done. But there
is an almost certainty that anything not on the plan will not get done. This is our window for the future. Please show your support.
At our
monthly CBC meeting (11-14-01) a question was asked re: the wearing of helmets. Every
Tailwind issue, on page #2, at the bottom, second sentence, states that helmets are
required. It is the policy of the CBC that a helmetless rider shall not participate in any
club rides. If you are the ride leader, you are expected to enforce this.
Thanks to all
of those who worked hard and all day on the Chilhowee workday (11-11-01). We started on a really neat addition to the
Slickrock Trail. And yes, according to an in depth, in house CBC investigation, S.S. never
cleared or blazed a MTB trail!
Please
come to the meeting on Monday, Dec 10 at 7:00pm. Several
of us went to the SORBA board meeting in Gainsville, GA this past Saturday and gathered a
lot of information to pass on to the club members. It seems as though it would be very
good for our club to become a SORBA chapter.
