April 2002
As the current president of the Chattanooga Bicycle Club
I represent approximately 230 plus riding members. In a perfect world the club officers
would have liked all 230 plus members and their friends to attend the Chattanooga Bicycle
Task Force and Bicycle Master Plan Public Meetings. Many of our members are raising
families and have careers. Those of us who are retired were able to attend these meetings.
The information from these meetings was discussed at our monthly club meetings and in our
monthly newsletter publication Tail Wind.
One of the initial projects discussed provides for a
North/South, East/West corridor. The people will have safe bike lanes and an alternative
means of transportation. Less vehicular traffic equals less air pollution.
I retired from the smog capital of the U.S., Los Angeles.
I moved to Ringgold, GA in February 1992. At that time the skies were clear and there was
minimal traffic, as well as almost non existent trash. Approximately 5 years later the
skies are not clear, the traffic is gridlock at times and trash is everywhere. There has
been a continuous exodus from the Chattanooga area to N. Georgia for many reasons.
Our clubs goal is to support the evolving projects
from the Bicycle Master Plan and to grow N. GA and Chattanooga into a bike friendly
community. This will draw tourism to our area. The Mayor supports the Bicycle Master Plan
and we request your support.
Sincerely yours,
Tom Ingledew
