Two Big Events This Fall

by John Beverly, CBC President 2000-2001

The summer is winding down and we have the last events of the Chattanooga Bicycle Club 2001 schedule coming up. Don't miss them. We have some changes to the events so take note.

The North Georgia Century plus (2-for-1 Century) will be a one day event on Saturday, October 13. Rides are 100, 60 and 25 mile distances. It will also include a "Double Metric Century". That is 126 miles for those of us who are "metric illiterate". That is the plus. It will be a full service event, meaning SAGS and restrooms. The countryside is beautiful. There isn't any better place to ride.

The Ocoee/Tanasi Mountain Bike Festival will be a replacement (sort-of) for the Ocoee Fat Tire Festival and the Tanasi  Family Mountain Bike Festival and will be held at the Chilhowee Campground on October 19-21.

Try to make it to at least one of these events and offer to help out if you are able. We still need several volunteers for both events. We also need volunteers to perform trail maintenance and repair at Chilhowee. Please check the web site www.chattbike.com for times and meeting places, or feel free to call me anytime at 876-1325 for information. The next scheduled workday is Sep 9 at 9 am. Meet at the Ranger station.

I hope everyone has received their pictures from the 3-State 3-Mountain Challenge. I will be posting an AOL Hometown site with pictures from the ride. Check it out if you are online browsing around. Type in exactly, (case sensitive) http://hometown.aol.com/ChattBike/ChattBike.com. Also browse the pictures from the Ocoee Festival last year, just to wet your taste buds for the one this year. While you’re at it, pray for no rain. Does anyone remember the Tanasi Festival in '99? Now that was rain! I wrote about an eerie ride I took that year. It was actually beautiful up there on that rainy, foggy day. We had a lot of fun and ate a lot of Chris and Hugh’s pancakes under the tent. I wish we had pictures of it. We'll be sure and take some this year.

That reminds me, do you make a mean pancake? If so, we need you to make pancakes Sunday morning at the Ocoee Festival. Bring your secret recipe and the ingredients and be prepared to see a lot of hungry folks smile.

One more time I am going to appeal to anyone who can to volunteer to help with the final two events of the 2001 season. Please call me or e-mail ChattBike@aol.com.

John
