Congratulations to a Real American Hero!

by John Beverly, CBC President 2000

It's about time for the Tanasi Family Mountain Bike Festival (Sep 30 - Oct 1) and the 2 for 1 Century (Oct 7 & 8). I am really looking forward to both. Our spring events were hugely successful. The weather participated and we had a great turn out, but most important, it was FUN! I have a feeling the fall events will equal them. Especially, if Hugh whips up some more of those great pancakes at the Tanasi Festival. (Winner of the Gold Spray Painted Spatula award for the best pancakes at the Occoee Fat Tire Festival)

We will be enlisting help from some of you, for these events, so please make yourself available as much as you can. We will need SAG support for the century and food preparation and ride leaders for the Tanasi. Please call me, if you know that you are going to be available to volunteer your services. Having a good list of services, with volunteers to fill them, will aid us immensely in organizing the events.

I hope everyone is having a great biking summer. I have had little opportunity to get out and ride, so I vicariously monitored the "Tour". How about that Lance? It's really impressive to win once, but twice!! That's awesome. Steve's autographed poster just doubled in value. I think I'll celebrate, and order those Northwave shoes I have been wanting. I sent him a congratulatory e-mail on behalf of the Chattanooga Bicycle Club. I am sure that we all appreciate his victory and representation of American cyclists.

I have to keep it short this month. I haven't had much of a chance to ride, so I haven't done anything goofy, like buying cheap sunglasses and nearly ruining my eyes (I'm going the bike store and getting new Smith's today) or taking a tandem shopping trip with Colleen and making a spectacle of ourselves. But don't despair, I'm sure, I'll pull something good enough for a story by next month, since I'll be riding a lot over the next few weeks. I'll just close, by asking once again, that you make some time to help with the upcoming club events by volunteering your time or services or sponsorship.

See you on the side of the road or on the trails. Call me anytime at 510-9593 or e-mail ChattBike@aol.com.
