The Christmas season and the last days of the year are a special time to be thankful for what we have. I am especially thankful this year for the support of so many friends of my brother, and how much it has meant to his wife, son and daughter, and also to myself. I especially want to thank the Chattanooga Bicycle Club, but also Scenic City Velo, and everyone in the local cycling and running communities. I am mentioning a few people here, but many others have been helpful and supportive. I especially would like to thank Mark McOmie, for organizing the "In Memory of David Meek" stickers and donations, which has been very helpful and very comforting in a time of stress for his family. I am also very thankful for Dawn Salyer and her special efforts in the dedication of the 3 State 3 Mountain cycling event in David's name, as well as Sidney Roberts for organizing the Ride of Silence in David's name. The cariing shown by so many during that time was appreciated by the Meek family.

Since I have joined the Chattanooga Bicycle Club this year, all of the members that I have met have been extremely welcoming and supportive to me as a beginner. The CBC is very friendly to beginners, and anyone that has not previously been involved with cycling in any organized way. That is the kind of thing that David would have been happy to see. Later on in the year I joined SORBA, and met friendly cyclists there as well.

On my own behalf, I want to thank everyone involved in the special beginner friendly organized bicycle events, for what they meant to me. Those beginner rides are listed on the CBC calender site, and are a great way for new people to start cycling. The group of people I met early on at those events helped and supported me as I progressed throughout the year. I had planned to ride a few times with David this year before joining a group, but my plan for that was devinely changed. Without really knowing anyone else in the CBC bike club, I joined and came by myself, and I was welcomed and found many new friends in the process. It is hard to explain how much it meant on several occasions to have someone slow down and stay back and ride with me and talk to me during that time.

Have a merry Christmas and holiday season.
