This year there are only 2 host towns: Staunton and Harrisonburg. This means less time moving around - probably more time on the bike. They are in the process of finalizing the routes.
Several CBC folks have attended Bike Virginia and usually return with glowing reports. I have biked some areas around Harrisonburg and Staunton - absolutely beautiful country with views of mountains and some hills.
From their website: "Bike Virginia is an annual bicycle tour. We travel around the state to a new spot each year. Riders will enjoy an average of 50 miles of riding per day for 5 days. We'll also give you a century option on one day of the tour. Cyclists can camp or book reservations in an official Bike Virginia hotel. Evening entertainment and other non-riding activities are available."

Start from LaFayette and ride to Menlo on a portion of the Chattooga Co Century ride. The Menlo portion of the ride on Shinbone Valley Road is one of the most beautiful roads you'll ever ride. Rolling hills - no mountain climbs.
Meet at the Bi Lo shopping center in Lafayette. Take Hwy 27 south from Chattanooga. The Bi Lo is on the right about 2.5 miles south of the LaFayette Walmart. Take Hwy bus. 27 straight into LaFayette.
There's only one store stop in Menlo at about the 30 mile mark so carry enough food and liquids to get you to Menlo.
Start time: 8:30 am
Length: 55 miles
Ave speed: 14-16 mph
Cue sheet provided for anyone who wants to ride faster
No one dropped
Rain cancels ride - call if weather questionable

This week's ride will take us down to the Chickamauga Battlefield for 2 loops. The longer loop is about 25 miles, and will NOT go over THE WALL. It's full of scenic, rolling terrain.
The shorter loop is a 13 mile "down, around and back" ride. It's a pretty easy ride with no large hills. The first few miles are all downhill, but remember you have to come back up. The good thing is that it's a very gradual grade up the hill.
To get to the Battlefield from I-75, take the Battlefield Parkway exit on 75 South, turn right on Hwy 2 and follow into Ft. Oglethorpe. You'll go through several traffic lights. You'll eventually come to a main intersection (Kmart on left). Turn left onto Hwy 27 and follow into the park. The visitor's center is on the right.
Meeting time is 4:45 with rideout at 5
The ride is for all levels of riders, but PLEASE know your fitness level and be sure you can do your chosen loop at an average speed of 10-12 mph, without having to make a major rest stop.
Helmets are required!
You will be riding at your own risk
Maps will be provided
Please make sure to have 2 bottles with you
When the weather looks IFY, call us at the shop at 3:30 for the final decision.
Hope you all have a great ride. I doubt I'll be able to join you as I'm STILL fighting this sinus infection!
Take care,
Chris
