3-State 3-Mountain
2002 Ride Results
The weather gods have been good to us for
many years for the 3-State 3-Mountain Challenge but this year was not one of them.
Everything was falling into place for this to be our biggest and best Challenge yet. And
then the rains came. Two roads on the route were flooded causing route changes, one very
simple and one pretty extensive. If that wasn't enough, the fog settled on top of Lookout
Mountain and made visibility near zero. Well at least it wasn't too hot. But nothing stops
the determined and Mayor Bob Corker led over 350 riders across downtown and over the
Market Street Bridge before turning them loose to deal with the rain on their own. Two
hours later, he returned from the quarter century soaking wet but smiling. We understand
he is making plans for next year.
Thanks to the amateur radio personnel
keeping us in touch with the conditions and all the variuos volunteers, there were no
serious injuries and I believe everyone had a great time - in spite of the weather.
Note: These results are not exact. As hard
as we tried, I saw a lot of riders at the pavilion who rode but we don't have the
information on them. Also it was hard to hear as the riders checked in and we missed some
of the information when recording some of the others and made an educated guess. If you
see information you know is incorrect and can give us the correct information, please
email Daisy at DaisyBRider@cs.com. Also if you did
not get your 'I survived!' patch, please contact me and I will mail it to you.
Thanks to the World of Color, finish line
photos should be available to all who passed through the finish. They will be sending out
proofs with instructions on how to purchase. Steve Thomas, one of our members, has
taken some great candid shots from the start and various places on the course. We'll get
some of those out on this site as soon as I can. If anyone has any pictures of the
ride and can send them to me, we would love to include them on this site.
Results are still under construction and
will be added as built.
Remember, this is all in fun. The object is to enjoy the ride.
Congratulations! to all who survived
the 3-State 3-Mountain Challenge!
