CBC General Meeting Minutes

February 19, 2007

1 Attendance

  • Presided by Jim Johnson, President CBC

  • The meeting of the Chattanooga Bicycle Club was held at 6:00 pm at the Chattanooga Downtown YMCA.

  • Officers and Board present: Carol Zitzow, George Perry, Joe Nivert, Del Sudkamp, Daisy Blanton, Cat Thornton, Kelvin Hale

  • Others present:  Hugh Worthy, Philip Pugliese, David Rathbone, Andy Jones, Carol Farmer, Tommy Grisham, Cordie Kelly, Rob McLaughlin, Melissa Taylor, Tom Ingledew, Morgan Fraley, Hilda Fraley, Don Fletcher, Van Townsend, Dave Hammel, Olen Williams, Audrienne Andreiku

2 Motion: by Phil Pugliese to approve 2006 and January 2007 minutes as posted on the forum; seconded by Carol Farmer; motion carried.

3 Officer's Reports

  • George Perry, Treasurer the club has $64,000

  • Daisy Blanton, Communication:   we have a new web host with Chattanooga.net; with help of Chris Gilligan the transition was made without difficulty.

  • Del Sudkamp, Newsletter Editor:  club has new software; consider offering on-line newsletter to members Vs hard copies.

  • Joe Nivert, Road Coordinator:  Ride leaders dinner March 16; winter climbing series continues;  when time changes in March begin Tuesday night Red Bank ride (David Meek), Wed night Lookout Valley (Joe Nivert), Thursday night North Georgia (Tom Ingledew).

    •  Re large turnout of Tuesday night riders, Melissa Taylor to check availability of restroom facilities at the firehall adjacent to old BiLo

  • Cat Thornton & Kelvin Hale, Education Directors:   Start Wed night beginners ride soon;  still looking for parking spot to launch the ride.

4 Board Positions

  • Prospective board-appointed members for 2007 were presented:  Cat Thornton and Kelvin Hale, Education;  Colleen Carboni, Commuting Director; Wendy Richardson, Nominating Committee; George Perry, Bylaw Committee
    • MOTION by Daisy Blanton:  To accept these board members as presented; 2nd by George Perry; motion carried.
  • The two Education Coordinators, Cat and Kelvin, will have individual voting privileges, unless there is a tie.  In case of a tie, only one vote from Education is allowed.

  • Two offices remain unfilled:  Mtn Bike coordinator and Membership Director.  Phil Pugilese agreed to take Membership.
  • Since the club pays a coordinator for the club’s two main events (3State and Sequatchie Valley Century) the club may eliminate Event Coordinator position.  It will remain for now. 
  • Committees were formed to address two issues:
    • Publicity:  Phil Pugliese will ask Ruth Cartlidge, who also does publicity for Outdoor Chattanooga.
    • Member Communication:  Melissa Taylor, Del Sudkamp, Carol or Jim Farmer; Phil Pugliese
  • The membership also discussed the question of creating a president-elect position to make for a smooth transition between presidents. The consensus was that we should move up nominations to the fall, before elections, and/or the possibility of the VP moving into the presidency.

  • Officers and Board Members were reminded to sign the Conflict of Interest policy.

5 Insurance Review

CBC bylaws require periodic review of insurance needs; there has been no review since the club was incorporated in 2004; volunteering for this review are:  Daisy Blanton, Jim Johnson and Rob McLaughlin

6 3-State Update

  • Primary sponsor is Kelly Subaru with $2K donation; 903 registrants so far
  • final jersey design was presented; discussion of offering coordinating sox.
  • MOTION by Daisy Blanton to allocate $5K for 2000 sox to be sold for $5 each; Morgan Fraley 2nd; motion carried.

7 Bicycle Task Force Report

  • Phil Pugliese announced various upcoming events: 
    • March 14-16 Bike Summit Meeting in Washington DC;  
    • April 7 Riverwalk Bike Ride for public;   
    • April 14 at Hunter Museum Cycledelic Party to celebrate cycling, the 40th anniversary of Chatt Bike Club,  the 20th anniversary of 3-State event, and kickoff for the Tour de GA;   
    • April 18 Tour de GA, stage 3, in Chattanooga area;  
    • May 4  First Bike to Work day
  • MOTION by Hugh Worthy to increase to $2000 allowance for those attending the Bike Summit meeting; 2nd by Phil Pugliese; motion carried

8 BRAG offer

  • Tommy Grisham reported BRAG (Bike Ride Across Georgia) will offer CBC a group discount if 3 or more register together. 
    • Registration fee will be $150 vs normal $250. 
    • Date is June 9 - 16, begins in Columbus GA and ends in Savannah.
    •  Details available on line or at www.active.com

9 Riverwalk Cleanup

Andy Jones is coordinating a cleanup on part of Riverwalk, behind McDonald’s; scheduled for March 10,  at 9 AM.  Will be posted on calendar and forum.

10 ADOPT A HIGHWAY

Carol Farmer reported the first cleanup of Suck Creek yielded 28 bags of trash.  Next cleanup is April 28; participants must watch a DOT video (available on line) and sign a release.

As there was no further business, MOTION by Cat Thornton:  move to adjourn the meeting; 2nd by Tommy Grisham; motion carried.

The meeting adjourned at 7:30 PM; all present were invited to dinner at Panera’s, compliments of the club.
